Founded in 1873, by George Llewellyn White, the first 100 years in the history of Geo L White Limited saw it as a trader of coal, feeds, fertilisers and goods brought by train to the East Midlands centred on Burton-upon-Trent.
In 1971 our current Managing Director – George White, joined the business and by 1982 had been appointed managing director. In 1982 he made the decision to build a compound feed plant to manufacture and market a range of quality compound feeds over which the Company had complete control. Continued investment produced a state-of-the-art feed mill producing annually some 60,000 tonnes of compound feeds.
As well as the compounds, Geo L White Limited supplied about 20,000 tonnes of specialist custom-designed blends, 40,000 tonnes of straight feedstuffs, and a considerable quantity of fertilisers and succulent feeds.
In April 2006 the Company, now known as GLW Feeds Limited, moved to Shepshed following the acquisition of the “flagship” Lindum Mill from BOCM Pauls Ltd. The move considerably increased compounding capacity in a totally computer controlled environment, with complete traceability and quality assurance for all Company manufactured and supplied products.
Nearly £2 million of further investment at Lindum Mill has taken production capacity to over 220,000 tonnes of compound feeds and meals. January 2010 saw the opening of our specialist blending facility some 15 miles away at Long Clawson. This further increases our capability to manufacture both standard and custom blends using a wide range of quality ingredients.
The new production site has the capacity for over 45,000 tonnes of blends annually in a custom designed facility.
Alongside our wide range of quality manufactured feeds, we continue to sell 80,000 tonnes of moist and dry straights together with minerals, fats, milk powders, silage additives, fertilizers and cereal seeds.
