Founded in 1873, the first 100 years in the history of Geo L White Limited saw it as a trader of coal, feeds, fertilisers and goods brought by train to the East Midland hinterland of their bases near Burton-upon-Trent.
In 1982 the decision was made to build a compound feed plant to manufacture and market a range of quality compound feeds over which the Company had complete control. Continued investment produced a state-of-the-art feed mill producing annually some 60,000 tonnes of GLW quality compound feeds produced from a restricted selection of quality-assured, natural raw materials. As well as the compounds, Geo L White Limited supplied about 20,000 tonnes of specialist custom-designed blends, 40,000 tonnes of straight feedstuffs, and a considerable quantity of fertilisers and succulent feeds. All straights, blends and compounds were monitored by an independent laboratory, and were also tested and used on our own 400 cow commercially run dairy unit.
In April 2006 the Company, now known as GLW Feeds Limited, moved to Shepshed following the acquisition of the “flagship” Lindum Mill from BOCM Pauls Ltd. This give a considerably increased compounding and blending capacity in a totally computer controlled environment, with complete traceability and quality assurance being given to all Company manufactured and supplied products. Current expansion of Lindum Mill will take its capacity past 200,000 tonnes of compound, blended and specialist TMR meals per year, while the trading of straights and other agricultural requirements will also be expanded.
